Chico therapist An Bulkens
My mission
With passion and dedication, I devote my professional life to helping people live with a little more satisfaction and a little less complication - in their lives, their relationships, and their families.
Over the years, my own experience - and my work with adults, children, and families - has taught me how we can transform our pain in the presence of a person who truly listens. Being a witness to this process remains a humbling and powerful experience.
Although 'getting unstuck' is not always easy, it is not without humor, playfulness, and joy. It is an experience I wish for anyone who feels lost, discouraged, or overwhelmed.
Because every person is unique, therapy cannot be one-size-fits-all. I offer an approach tailored to the uniqueness of each person - or better, a space that allows you to create your own fit.

I My approach is distinctive for this area, integrateing clinical traditions to provide thoughtful, in-depth therapy for individuals, children and families.
For many years I have been engaged in ongoing studay and formation within the Lacanian* field of psychoanalysis, continuing my training with national and international colleagues and teachers.
I also have an academic background in Philosophy and Social Sciences and while preparing for licensure in California I directed The Mulberry School, an early childhood education program in Chico.
about lacanian psychoanalysis
*Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Lacanian Orientation offers a contemporary experience of psychoanalysis that speaks to the suffering of people today. It is well established in Europe and South America, now growing in the United States. Increasingly, clinicians and training programs are including this orientation, which emphasizes the individuality of each person’s experience and the transformative power of speech and listening.
